CID visits Abhishek Banerjee’s residence after he skips appearance in signature forgery case
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) visited the Kalighat residence of Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday after he did not appear before investigators in connection with the signature forgery case. Banerjee had been directed to appear at Bhawani Bhawan on Monday, but informed the agency that he was unable to attend due to health reasons and sought a 15-day extension. According to available information, CID officials reached his residence and began documenting the premises through videography as part of the ongoing investigation.

The investigation stems from an FIR lodged by the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly after discrepancies were allegedly detected in signatures related to the election of the Leader of the Opposition. Following the registration of the case, the CID issued notices to several MLAs, including Banerjee. According to sources, Banerjee informed the agency through a letter, sent on the advice of his legal counsel, that he would not be able to appear before investigators because of his medical condition.

Sources stated that Banerjee is currently resting at his residence and remains under medical supervision. It was also stated that he is receiving treatment and taking prescribed medication. Following receipt of his communication, CID officials proceeded to his residence. According to available information, the officers remained outside the premises, while videography of the location was being conducted as part of the investigation process.
